Industry must read: Top Ten Trends of Internet Medical Guide 2016 (Part 2)

Perficient recently released a report on the top ten trends in Internet healthcare development in 2016. Understanding these trends will not only help medical institutions survive in this age of user first, but also contribute to their sustainable development. In view of the length of the full text, we will divide the article into two articles, the article is the next article.

6. Increase ownership of patient data

The medical industry has always been in control of some important data in the country. As more patients have more medical data in 2016, the balance of power and customer preferences in the medical industry are beginning to change.

Benefiting from the “meaningful use” policy, patients have the theoretical right to access their own medical data. As reforms in the medical market, including changes in laws and regulations, more clearly indicate that patients should increase ownership of medical data. At the heart of this change is the Affordable Care Act, and with the introduction of the bill, the balance of power in the medical industry has shifted. In the traditional medical model, the medical institution holds the dominance and dominance of data in the hands. However, the Affordable Care Act has changed the status quo and patients are gradually taking the lead.

Healthcare organizations should encourage and motivate patients to manage and maintain their health, rather than just focusing on the disease. Medical plans should also implement programs that encourage cost savings. If patients do not respond to the call for reform, the assessment criteria and income status of medical service quality will be threatened, which is also the main factor leading the reform trend. In response to the call for reform, patients will increase their expectations for a close relationship with medical institutions and medical plans, while increasing expectations for data ownership.

How to respond to new customers in healthcare? It is understood that the patient's demand for data has been reflected in the action. At the beginning of 2016, the US Department of Health and Social Welfare issued some new regulations because the department received a large number of patient complaints and they wanted to exercise the power to view cases, but the results were disappointing. These new regulations include that medical institutions cannot ask patients to provide reasons for viewing cases, and do not allow medical institutions to refuse to provide cases because patients may be dissatisfied with the results of the report.

However, there are more active ways for patient groups to get the data they need to manage their health. Based on the response to changes in trends, we have found that with the improvement of customer-centric health management tools, products and services, the digital experience is becoming more mature. Fortunately, we can make a design at New York University in the Journal of Medical Internet Research study on telemedicine to collect some interesting points from 2015.

The study surveyed more than 1,600 mobile phone users, assessing the sociodemographic characteristics, the history of the use of medical and health mobile apps, the reasons for using the health care mobile APP, and the overall health of the user. The study found that although the health care app has a wide range of users, there are still a large number of patients who do not have these mobile apps. What makes the appeal of mobile apps less attractive? The answer is that these health care apps do not meet the needs of patients. So what is the patient's needs? The study found that what patients really want is:

Improve communication with healthcare providers

57% of respondents expressed interest in APP appointments and the ability to contact doctors directly. More than 60% of respondents hope to view their cases with the APP.

Better health management tools

In addition to the need to “use their own medical cases”, respondents also asked for “a tool that can record symptoms of a disease at the time of the disease in order to tell the doctor” and “a tool that can display a chart of changes in health status over time”. Although there are many ways to meet the needs, there are still some challenges that cannot be overcome.

Doctor's appointment

Doctors use a variety of systems, and even hospitals use different reservation systems. This makes it more challenging to create a digital platform for online bookings. Although there are many third-party agencies trying to solve this problem, the challenge still exists. However, many medical service providers are temporarily connected to the call center through the electronic appointment form on the patient journey.

Always pay attention to your health

The challenge with this goal is that the current collection of source data does not help the goal. In the current situation, we usually expect patients to play the role of an artificial ETL (data extraction, transformation, loading) in their data systems. Such role-playing is not impossible, but it must have a robust database and data lake, as well as a consolidated file of hospitals and clinics.

After understanding these data challenges, the benefits of a medical plan undoubtedly met the customer's need for data. At its core, the medical plan holds the most complete patient data. As medical plans become more patient-centric, patients are likely to become more likely to present data-centric solutions.

DLT-PVC

Application

The Double-lumen Endotracheal tube (also called Double-lumen endobronchial tube or DLT) is a type of endotracheal tube which is used in tracheal intubation during thoracic surgery and other medical conditions, to achieve the selective one sided ventilation of either the right or the left lung.

The main disadvantage of right sided tubes concerns the short length of the right main bronchus before giving off the upper lobe bronchus(risk of occusion)

Thus, left-sided tubes are usually preferred, even for right side surgery.
