Japan's latest discovery: hair follicle regeneration technology can be used to treat hair loss

The Japan Institute of Physical Chemistry and Kyocera Corporation announced that they will cooperate to study the use of stem cell technology to regenerate hair follicles to treat hair loss. This technology has been successfully used in experimental mice and is planned for clinical treatment by 2020.

Alopecia is mostly male, which has an impact on the appearance and life of the patient. The Japan Institute of Physical Chemistry and Kyocera Corporation recently issued a communique stating that there are about 18 million alopecia patients in Japan. The main treatments include the use of hair growth agents and autologous hair follicle transplantation, but they are not fundamental solutions.

Hair follicles are skin cells that grow hair. In general, people can't grow new hair follicle cells, and hair follicles can't regenerate after death. Therefore, people expect great treatment for hair loss with hair follicle regeneration technology.

The Institute of Physical Chemistry, Kyocera Corporation, and a regenerative medical technology company called "Organ Technology" collaborate to study hair follicle regeneration. They plan to extract epithelial stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells from the patient's own hair follicles, respectively, and process them. After obtaining the hair follicle primordia in large quantities, they are transplanted to the hair loss site, so that the hair loss site grows.

In the future, medical institutions only need to collect a small amount of hair follicles from patients, and then the relevant companies use hair follicles to separate stem cells to produce regenerative hair follicle primordia. Finally, these regenerative hair follicle primordia are sent back to medical institutions for transplant treatment.
