With the development of science and technology, China's atmospheric monitoring automation system is continuously advancing, and rainfall recorders have been put into business. The rain gauge is an automatic observation instrument with high technology content, and the sensors are all electrical signal outputs. Therefore, the measurement accuracy changes with time.
It is meaningless to use a rain gauge when the wind is too strong (tropical storm or hurricane), because the recorded results will have too much error while causing damage to the rain gauge itself. In addition, the adhesion of rainwater to the wall or funnel can result in slightly smaller measurements.
When the temperature is close to the freezing point, the rain may freeze when it falls on the rain gauge, causing the funnel to clog or other problems. Therefore, in order to make the quantity transmission accurate, reliable and uniform, the rainfall recorder must be regularly verified and calibrated and made comparable.
Rain gauge recorder on-site calibration method:
1. Standard and equipment for on-site calibration of rainfall recorder: 0-250mm vernier caliper with a minimum division value of not more than 0.05mm; 157.08ml (equivalent to 10mm precipitation) standard ball; level ruler; stopwatch.
2. Calibration point selection is performed on 10mm rainfall.
3. The water receiving device mouth should be level, measure with different directions of the horizontal ruler; measure the inner diameter of the water meter inlet with the vernier caliper 200+0.6mm, the inner wall of the water bearing device and the water receiving port should be smooth, and the cutting edge should not have sand holes, burrs, damage, etc. defect. The rain gauge conveys the chamber sensor using the dump pulse signal to measure the amount of ground precipitation, each pulse is 0.1mm. Before the indication calibration, check whether the master and collector are normal and the parameter settings are correct. The standard ball and the control valve are connected by a latex tube, and there is no leakage or leakage. After time control, the water inflow of the rain gauge is injected with the precipitation intensity of 4mm/min and 1mm/min respectively, and the rainfall measurement values of the automatic weather station are recorded separately. Each precipitation intensity is calibrated three times, and the average value of the three measurements is subtracted. The standard value (with a standard value of 10 mm) is used as the measurement error of the precipitation intensity. The error of 10mm rainfall is ≤0.4mm. The maximum measurement error of the two precipitation intensities is used as the calibration result of the automatic weather station rain gauge sensor, and the field calibration can be performed at least one year according to the local rainfall intensity.

A rain gauge is an instrument used by meteorologists and hydrologists to measure precipitation in a region over time.
